 There are two different programs under the Social Security Administration (SSA) SSI and SSDI.

 SSDI: Stands for Social Security Disability Insurance a. to qualify the disabled person must have a recent work history. The amount of work you need depends on your age at the time disability starts. 

  • Before the age of 24 1 ½ years of work in a 3

 SSDI: Stands for Social Security Disability Insurance a. to qualify the disabled person must have a recent work history. The amount of work you need depends on your age at the time disability starts. 

  • Before the age of 24 1 ½ years of work in a 3 year period before becoming disabled ii. 
  • Age 24-31 – work during ½ the time between age 21 and the time the disability began. 
  • Age 31 or older work during 5/10 years before the disability began  

SSI: Adults and children may be eligible if they have little or no income, little or no resources, have a disabling blindness or are age 65 or older. 

The Resource limit is

  • $2,000 for individuals
  • $3,000 for couples or families
